In modern times, technology and art have become divide into two separate areas of specialisation and, because thought and feeling have been torn asunder, both seem to have lost their creativity.

During the Renaissance, technology and art were inseparable and together led to the of rich humanity and creativity. Contemporary society needs to break free from dichotomy of technology and art and bring together diverse concerns, transcending the barriers of cultures and systems.

NewMediaLab's opening exhibition, which took place in Trieste on 24th november 2000, had a funny title "+ o - 20/40/60". We explored, through works of three generations, different possibilities for artistic expression incorporating the most advanced digital manipulation technologies.

The invited artists were: Cesare Piccotti with magnitudo, sort of installation were monitors and books talk together through a mirror, Ennio Guerrato with digital a political art work critic about the abuse of technogy by power and finally a group of young italian artists ghettoblaster.it. which works are maily fucused on web site and music.

In addition to this exhibition, one day long, NML 's project is going to promote various other events, such as talks, workshops, courses at all levels trying to become a place where find out all the news about media technologies.
